Its remote location between the Glaciers and Queenstown makes it a perfect stop on a South Island itinerary. Tawaki, or Fiordland Crested Penguins, nest in coastal rainforest near Lake Moeraki from July to December. Around 10% of the global population breeds here. Wilderness Lodge offers licensed, low-impact guided viewing at protected sites, supporting penguin conservation through habitat protection, predator control, and ongoing monitoring.

The Wilderness Lodge has a 'lodge-style' inclusive tariff covering accommodation, dinner, breakfast and guided activities.
